We do a lot of weekend non-camping events, too. Camp sites can be hard to find.
I've heard about Meridian Coronations. Esp. Sir John the BearKiller - being eaten by a Bear. Who was later knigthed and dubbed "Sir Bear the John Killer" ;-) When people up here try for schtick it's usually just lame.
There's no flair for drama and the sorts of genuine eccentricity that characterizes a lot of the south.
Part of the Character of the Middle is an abject aversion to change of any kind. And I put that down to developing in the heart of UAW land.
