Seamstress Seminars

[livejournal.com profile] attack_laurel and her apprentice are putting ideas in my head again. ;-)

I wonder if there would be call/desire for a series-styled type of seminars locally on costuming. If I could find a location (my house isn't big enough for ME to sew in, let alone a group!).

Not a real frequent thing - I'm thinking quarterly.

Q1 - Design process, development, and pattern drafting

Q2 - Cutting and Construction

Q3 - Fitting, Hems, and Closures

Q4 - Finish work, decorative elements, and accessories

Thoughts/advice/warnings of insanity ahead?

Heck, if TWO people show up, it's probably worth it for time and space to get things done myself! ;-)

I intend for it to be a sort of free-wheeling thing. Just that I'm more likely to have a bolt of muslin and a bunch of reference material for the first session, and my embroidery collection for the last, etc.

If it goes well, we could even cycle again each year.

I envision something of a "Bring me a picture of what you want and lets try to figure out how to make it" sort of thing. If that makes sense. Rather than "Come make a Gothic Fitted Gown" or "Come make a Corset." Which are good - but more limited. Plus, pursuit of something new gives MY ADD little brain something to do, too.

I do a combination of the two. Tonight we're going to talk about sleeves. Once I was done with my lesson then I helped folks out on whatever they brought. I had a woman who tends to try and dominate the conversation with unsolicited complaining about her life and this was a good way to 1. get around that without having a big confrontation 2. actually accomplish something and stay on track.

I actually like that I have a small solid core of ladies. It's easier to manage.

Yeah, I'm sort of trying to avoid too much of the Expert Hen Party feel. I'm hoping to help out people who want better garb (including me) and have fun designing stuff at the same time.

Fun with sewing? How novel!
