Did you line it? What sort of lacing did you use and how did you set the rings?

Heck, we could teach you to knit, I'm sure. I think it's a persistence thing. I couldn't get much out of it the first two times I tried to learn. Now I can handle about anything. Though I have no desire to try my hand at knitted trunkhosen!
