IMO, adding a principality (and coming from a Kingdom that has them anyway), still leaves enough people willing and able to run things at the kingdom level because if the principality is far enough away from central kingdom, it probably does not affect the officer pool in the outlying area.
It also gives those who are far away from central kingdom a chance to get to more events and it also provides more tournaments and I love those dang tourneys. I don't know how it is there, but iirc our kingdom law states that Crown tournaments must be held in central kingdom (or I could be spacing this but I don't have time to look up the law) and Coronations can be held anyway in the kingdom.
