Wow, what a weekend!

In spite of all kinds of obstacles in my path and one incident almost resulting in the death of my husband by peach pit, I got my peaches canned, and two batches of preserves made on Friday morning. We retrieved Ilsa from the mechanic. On the second try. The first time, they were out "road testing" her. ;-) I think they enjoyed themselves. And judging from the protective papers in her, they have much more respect for Ilsa than they ever did the little trucklet. So, brakes, check. Next, snow tires.

As sson as Anneliese got home, we threw her in the car and headed for CHarlevoix. GPS is unhelpful when there are large "bridge out" detours. And the hubs tends not to believe I know where I am. So he bought a map. We made it, and Grandma and Grandpa got to have all kinds of fun with the girls. I didn't get to do a lot, and never even got downtown. But I did do the dutiful grand-daughter thing. Even bathed her stupid little dog. Whom I do not trust around the girls. Nor vice versa. Which made the whole afternoon rather stressful, as I felt like I had to be right on top of that situation every second. Actually, I agreed to bathe the thing mostly as an excuse to dump her outside where I didn't have to worry about it. We did take the girls for a walk most of the way downtown. And to my amusement, right after lunch, Anneliese said "Go bed," and did so.

I got some Christmas knitting done, though I think I'll need another skein of yarn. Mom stopped and admired the color, which is lucky, as it's the Laminaria shawl from Knitty for her. Provided I get the silly thing done. Complicated!

Mom and Dad went to Dad's 50th class reunion. And we went to the Red Mesa Grillin Boyne City. The GPS sent us via the old Ironton Ferry (which is a story in iteslf). Anneliese was entertained by the crossing. Then after dinner, we went to Kilwin's and got a little fudge. Yes, we have fudge here at home. But we don't like to be seen with it. ;-) So we only play fudgie on vacation.

We saw Uncle Jimmy. I brought him some jam and some of John's sausage, since the whole food transfer thing has thus far usually been one-way. He gives us maple syrup galore. Of course, then we went out to the old farm and picked some sweet corn, onions, shallots, grapes, and stopped at the orchard behind the house.

Now, nobody lives there, and hasn't in years, but Jimmy farms it. And apparently has decided to get the orchard back into shape. It's workin'. I spotted it from the road and told Dad. Who spoke longingly of the old Bartlett pear tree. ;-) It's still there. It's loaded I'm not sure how many we picked but 20-30# is probably accurate. And almost that many apples. I was surprised that Mom remembered what was out there. It helped us just skip over the Red Delicious - that nobody likes. And get just Macs and Cortlands instead. John let Rori gnaw on some of his apple. She reallyd liked that. After John pitched it away, she fussed and got Grandpa to share hers.

I made the Diner Chocolate Pie from "Baked: New Frontiers in Baking." Wow. Miles away frojm Jell-o pie filling. Go try it. And we took it as our dish to pass to Dad's Class Reunion picnic ant Depot beach. Both girls got to swim or splas around in the water a little bit. Mostly to wear them out. Which in the case of Anneliese backfired a little. She didn't sleep on the way home, but she was a bit of a monster. But we made it. For all that the GPS picked up thw worst route EVER. *sigh*

Now it's off to work. All week, as Cheryl is taking Thursday off. This week and next. But I don't have to work either Saturday. And this Saturday is the Michigan Irish Music fest and the Muskegon Feis therein. We'll have to see if Linsey wants to go. Maybe I'll spot her a ticket. Gotta think about if there's anything else Anneliese needs for class.

Mom wants to get together for the girls' birthdays, but I'm not sure how that'll work out. I'm not off either of the next two Saturdays. The dance school is having a hay ride on the 26th that we're thinking about whether to go to. Mom is teaching Sunday school now, and doesn't really want to do Sundays if she can help it. Maybe the Thursday after their birthdays. It's not like either of them will notice.

Off to work! Must take the shawl along to work on. Oooh. And get my scrolls done!
