One step forward,
Aug. 29th, 2007 06:30 amif not two steps back - well, aggravation.
I got a reply from the Dress Specialist at the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistoriche Documentatie. Who didn't know, and just forwarded my request on to the Kaasmuseum. *face palm* Yeah, thanks lady. I asked them already. Though maybe with her added weight behind it, they'll consider a reply.
Got a nice surprise yesterday, though. I went to pick up my prescription, which comes in blister packs. Normally, I get a 30 day supply, cause it's one where you can't pick up multiple boxes on one copay. This time, the company that makes them apparently opted to box them up in 60-day format. For the same copay. Whoo-hooo.
I picked up 3 books from the library. Two were more or less useless. The third is cool. It's a full color, written in the most annoying italic script that supposed to look like handwriting. And no bib. But it's about daily life in Goes, the Netherlands, in 1566. Sketch after sketch of all these little details. I wouldn't use it as documentation, but it's a fabulous overview. I might try to scan a page or two later.
Master Mordak's scroll parchment is ALMOST flat. And we seem to be losing some of the humidity around here, so I can be less panicky about cockling. Now I need to check and see if the ink reacts the same to the parchment as to my practice surface or if adjustments will need to be made. This parchment is SO slick, I think I'll need to even scuff up the painted sections, too.
We DID go to the beach last night. Got a bit of a surprise there, too. When Darling checked the beach report, the water was 69 degrees, 3 foot waves, and a yellow flag. On arrival, the lake had inverted, water temp was nearer to 50 degrees, there was some moderate surf and an undertow. The surf and a recent storm had laid up a temporary sandbar, and about 20 to 30 feet past it you could feel the riptide start. We did take a dip, but kept hold of the Muffin the whole time. And the water was cold enough that (miraculously) she said "all done" once she got cold through. Still, it meant she slept like a little rock.
That tooth of hers is SO loose, but I don't dare yank it. I can't really explain the concept to her. Which led me to muse on what the Tooth Fairy should leave her. Cash really doesn't have any meaning to her, yet. And she's not at a point where she can even make indications about what she'd like to spend it on. I suppose I could put it in an envelope for her until she's older, but what fun is the Tooth Fairy, then? So I'm thinking I'm going to get her a different fairy-themed Disney trading pin for each tooth she looses. That way, she'll have momentos later.
