Cold, snowy mornings
Jan. 20th, 2008 09:37 amThe foul weather shows no signs of letting up. Or rather, the intermittent nature of it makes it difficult to determine when and if to venture out. This is one of those relatively rare instances of an arctic air mass moving over a warm, open lake. It generates odd patterns. It should be noted, for those not familiar, that lake effect storms are quantitatively different than standard snow shower conditions. Much less predictable, much more wind shifting, much more variant. One minute, you're watching pleasant little flakes quietly drifting down. The next, you've hit a white-out so thorough you can't tell if you're on the road or not.
*sigh* If it quites like it intends to STAY quiet, I might venture out and try to grab some silk to line my partlet with.
In the meantime, I have made a batch of chocolate chip cookies. For anybody who cares, I now share my recipe:
Femke's Foul Weather Cookies
1/2 c maragarine
1/2 c. shortening (I use smart balance)
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
2 1/2 Tbsp milk
2 tsp vanilla (I like vanilla)
2 1/4 c. AP flour
1 12 oz pkg choc chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together margarine, shortening, and sugar. Add soda and salt. Beat in egg, milk, and vanilla. Add flour, divided into two portions. Stir in chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 9-12 minutes, or until lightly browned.
