Flights of Fancy

I promise, back to costuming stuff next week. I'll update on the new chemise, and maybe attempt the drop-front kirtle. And maunder more about petticoats and the bodice/jacket.

In the meantime... )

Inspired by Griet...

And now I need her to deconstruct for me. ;-)

I made a pancake - 2 eggs, 1/2 c. milk, 1/2 c flour - then added 2 T sugar and a 1/4 tsp of speculaas spice. What do you mean why? When does speculaas spice need a reason?

It tasted good, but texturally was off. It didn't crisp all the way, and the bottom was more rubbery than anything else. Too much fat in the milk? Too much butter in the pan? Not baked long enough? Wrong temp?

On to other things... )

Interludes

[livejournal.com profile] ablackram had mentioned to me some 16th century portraits which have apparent knit shawls. Whilst I wait for her to elucidate, I surfed.

No shawls, but this is an interesting headscarf variant, with the tubes meeting:

It's also the first time I've seen a Dutch woman (from the headdress) in what appears to be a saia. Or at least an open kirtle of some kind.

Love the whitework coif here, and the scallops on the hems of the oversleeves:

Look, a couple of linen shawls:
