Actually, Santa was pretty good to me. The house now has a Wii Fit. Watching Dad bowl on the Wii was a trip and a half. I was more impressed at that point with the silly thing than ever - he used the same techniques he used to use when he bowled on a league. And they worked the same way. I've also now got a daylight lamp. Once I can relax again, I can use it.\

Downside - I showed up on Christmas Day feeling a little off, and promptly got a cold. Then, just as promptly gave it to the baby. (In case anybody was curious, its very mess to nurse a snotty baby.) So, between my cold and hers, I was getting about 3-4 hours sleep per night. We came home last night, I walked into the basement, and was standing in sodden, cold, wet carpet. Bugger. My guess is that the plow created an ice dam at the bottom of the driveway. And, since my house and driveway abut, standing water rose high enough to come in through the old coal chute.

There is a slim (0.2 nanometers) chance that we can get the insurance company to call it storm damage (which it is) and replace the carpet, as well as some of the dry wall. Much more likely that they'll call it flooding and flatly refuse.

So... my sinuses are screaming, I haven't had a decent night's sleep in a couple of weeks, I'm working 10 hours today, and I get to go home to a sodden living room. John spent some time with [livejournal.com profile] ablackram's carpet cleaner sucking out water. Got 9 gallons on the first pass. Still soaked. So he wants to get a carpet cleaning company out to do it. Which I understand. But we were going round and round, and I still REALLY wanted him to call the insurance agent. I think we weren't communicating. I'm also shuddering at the thought of shifting everything out of the storage area (which is the old coal bin) and sorthing through what's ruined. I'd also bet that the computer hutch (particle board) and one bookcase will also not survive (again, pseudo woodlike substitute material). *head desk*

Note - this is after discovering a tiny gas leak in the furnace. Courtesy of the city construction project this summer that rupture the main. And left debris in my controller. Not fixable short of a new controller. Better yet, a new furnace. Maybe with ductwork to the baby's room. And a realization.... I'm not sure I can even get a twin bed into that room. And I can't get a second into Anneliese's room - unless I put them side by side with about a foot between. I need a bigger house!!

(Did I mention that the postal lady, after leaving several notes in our mailbox - while we were gone - regarding the need to shovel a path for her or she wouldn't deliver the mail.... left the girls' presents from John's stepdad out on the porch. They were soaked through. Luckily, they were clothes, and should be fine once they dry out.

So, here, with a nod to makethevoicesgoaway.blogspot.com, I present:

Six entirely arbitrary reasons why Blackadder III is better than Blackadder II or Blackadder Goes Forth (unless Blackadder I has enjoyed an unlikely renaissance of late, I think it's safe to leave it out of the debate, gentlemen):

1. The Scottish Play!a>

2. Antidisintibblywibblymentionism

3. ...and so wee sometimes I think the pixies brought it to me!.

4. Elections!

5.When I used to play in the gutter, I used to say to the other snipes "Hello, I'm Baldrick" and they'd say "Yes, we know, sod off Baldrick.

6. The Highwaymen!

7. I love a Royal Wedding!
