I had an interesting FB experience today.
First off - remind me not to respond at all to insanity that someone else is clearly in support of. Even if they, themselves, are relatively rational people, chances are good that people on the F'List are not.
I learned that there are Food Conspiracy Theorists. Apparently, the Ebul Gubberment intends to keep us all mindless and unresisting to the Coming of Amerika by denying us access to wholesome food. By - and this is the kicker - making raw milk and organic produce illegal.
Now, without going into a whole argument about the relative merits of such things (and it's sometimes a questionable thing. Organic does not necessarily equal healthy....) I find this a bit of a giggle trap.
Why, you ask?
Well, lots of people like to take pot shots at the "Tea Partiers" and their supposed paranoia regarding the Government. I happen to fall into the camp that believes the Fed has gotten way out of control and that a return to States' rights and the constitution is in order. The Executive branch needs it's hands slapped, and both sides need to quit using the Judicial branch as a back-door legislature. And there are a lot of people (many of you out their on my F'list) who can't understand why we don't want the Government to "take care of us." Specifically through "entitlement" programs (aside: You aren't entitled to anything. Really. Not d**N thing. Sorry).
And yet, these same folks who are having an absolute hairy canary over a raid on a "private co-op" that was dealing in raw milk - as told on a tin-hat-wearingly-biased "Natural News" website... are the same really far Left folks who believe that while the Government is Ebul and controlling their food, should still "take care" of all these other things and provide all these entitlements.
Oooookaaayyyyyy.....
Two things:
A. Food Conspiracy Theorists are an interesting brand of Mental Cases to be avoided at all costs.
B. Freedom x Security = Constant. You can't have more of one without losing some of the other. And you don't get to pick and choose. Either the Government is their to protect you from your own stupidity OR you have the right to make your own mistakes, even if they turn out to be fatal. Which is it?
