Update

Dad called tonight. Mom found the gift card in question today in the bedroom we usually sleep in. ;-)

I didn't lose it. Which is a good thing.

I feel like less of an idiot. At least about that.

We did spend some time tonight at the Tulip Festival tonight. Or at least, wandering Holland. Rori likes Elephant Ears (sort of an un-funneled funnel cake for those not in or near the MidWest), and corn dogs.

I got a shower gift for my cousin Jennifer - some darling little baby leg warms and some Sunday-go-to-meetin' burp cloths. It was all very sweet stuff from the TipToes - possibly the cutest little Boutique in Holland. And now I don't have to knit. ;-)

There is also a spice shop there that I hadn't noticed before. They have a cinnamon that has a better aroma than any of the varieties Penzeys carries, AND they carry cacao nibs. Plus I got to page through the Gingerbread cookbook I'd been considering. Me likey.

I anticipate an aggravating summer, full of too many hours of week and too many aggravations in general. But in the meantime, I get to decide what to get with my Birthday money:

1. A dress form (I want the Uniquely You, I think)
2. A milk pasteurizer - in the interest of buying a cow share at a local farm that is milking Jerseys. It do make a difference.
3. A grain mill - reallyfresh flour

The Uniquely You is very nice, but personally found it frustrating until I took an electric knife to it. The slip cover is good, but unless you've got help (though I'm sure you can find some) it'll be a major pain to get adjusted well, and is only semi friendly to period lines.

Here's a couple of questions you might not KNOW the answers to, but could maybe speculate on?

How well would it work if you put your corset ON the form, tightened it down, and then fit the gown over top?

Since you can get extra covers, would it be worth tailoring the covers for different "lines?" One snugged in tight for the corsetted styles, one loosey-goosey for self-supported German, etc.

Umm.... where did you take an electric knife to it?

The form is wonderful in that it is squishy, but it is only just so squishy. For about a year and a half I had used one of the covers that had been fitted to a semi-corseted shape. For any period work I would then put the corset on over that, and go to.. But the bust line just doesn't cooperate.

Extra covers is an option, one I also went for and bought an extra cover for the same purpose you're thinking. After the struggle getting it on - I literally sat on it in several spots, swore at it repeatedly, and at one point in time John walked into the room to find me laying on it and panting (his expression was priceless) - I decided rather quickly it could keep the one it had on, and I'd manage.

I sliced off about 80% of the breasts.. they were HUGE. Disproportionately so. When I opened the box on getting it, it was "Wow, I didn't know they were sending me Madonna!" They don't lift when corseted, only squish - so you have to adjust for that factor as well. Add in that they only squish so far, and you can end up with immovable bricks if you're going down to a small cup size.

For all that those are negatives, I still love it to death, and it's still far better than the standard plastic models.

Oh, if you do decide to get it Atlanta Thread & Supply Company was where I purchased mine. They had the absolute best price on them a few years ago, nearly half what most others were asking.
