Rambley-doooo and an Iron Seamstress

My brain is SO not in gear this morning. I'm trying to put together a packing list for Golden Seamstress. And other things keep romping through my brain in the most distracting way possible.

Uppermost, Sarafina's conversation with me sometime back combined with a Project Runway marathon whilst cranking out Wedding Clothes made for a strange compilation effect. Alaina and I got to talking about putting together an event, and in my head it has morphed from "Project Runway" to something that's more "Iron Seamstress."

The concept: Collect donations of fabric, trim, doo-dads of various type, and any vaguely garb-related thing anybody wants to contribute. Each team can bring sewing machines, sergers, tools of all kinds, muslin, interfacing, etc. They receive a box of fabric and etc. They have 'X' hours to create garb from the box. TO enliven things, there will be a table with various fabrics, trims, etc available. You may trade one entire item from your box for an item on the table. OR, you may trade whatever you like with other teams.

Sounds like fun and giggles to be had to me.

Templemede wants to do a regular spring event - we could have lots of fun doing this, or a kind of "academic track" type of event with different types of competitions, maybe a Spring A&S thing. I dunno, but that sounds like a grand 'ole time. What do you think?

I think it would be a lot of fun. I'd also run a "Grainassance Festival - A Celebration of Bread and Beer" by Richard.

Maybe they'd consider an A&S event with a theme that rotates by year? Or some such? You can run both ideas up the flagpole. It may depend on what kind of site they can get. The sewing event would need something indoors, the other would be best outside, somewhere they'd let us build a brick-fired oven on site, and knock it down when we're done.

An Annual Costuming symposium within the Kingdom wouldn't be a bad thing, either.

You know I am so totally there. My idea is to make something that is NOT about A&S, implied or other. It would be all about the C of the SCA.

*giggle*

I'll keep you in the loop! We were sort of contemplating a roving "Iron Seamstress" event that might change venue and type of challenge on an annual basis. So if you've had idle thoughts, please jump right in!!

I wonder if we could get some peer-y volunteers for a "Dress the Duke" challenge - all men's garb, all court quality. *g*
