12th Night

I spent an unusually harried 12th Night attempting (vainly) to finish off the Court List. *sigh*

BUT - I did get to speak in passing with [livejournal.com profile] gwacie, even though we didn't get to snuggle in anywhere for a chat. First, I was running to finish scrolls, then, she was headed off to teach! Sorry!

And I got to spend a little, insufficient bit of time with [livejournal.com profile] ladysarafina, who was a hoot as always, and one of my fave people to chat with. She also introduced me to one Henry of Exeter, who was both large of stature and personality. He was Quite Entertaining (TM), and I hope to renew the acquaintance at some point.

I managed to tatoo my finger, trying to hem my flemish cap in the van (which didn't get done), and then working on scrolls and driving ink into the same finger tip. I suspect I will be days getting THAT off. I did, however, look the authentic scribe with inkstains galore and a panicked expression.

TRMs were laid back and quite easy to deal with. And to my delight, Master Dafydd is soon to step up as the next Dragon Herald. It makes me a bit disappointed to be stepping down soon, as he's such fun to work with. I will NOT miss the herding cats-like sensation of trying to get scrolls signed. Or the fact that I haven't done an original from scratch piece for Court in ages, as I usually get stuck trying to letter somewhere between 6 and 8 - just to get the list done.

I also find that my sewing mojo is largely gone. I have no ambition to do anything. So putting the website together may be good for me - revisiting my inspirations and finding pieces to do as examples. I think I'm going to start small at first and work up some example wired caps and trimmed koliers. At the moment I'm more inclined to sit back in a comfy chair with handwork than to drag out the machine.

Hmmm, also spoke with HRH's chamberlain (as part of another conversation). Found her to be a very nice woman, who asked if it would be considered rude to request assistance with embroidering garb for TRHs. Apparently HerRH can make the garments, but lacks the time to embroider (and with simple, early period stuff, it's those sort of touches that add the rich look), but is afraid that such a specific request would be something Not Done (TM). I assured her that's it's a perfectly reasonable request, especially to make of the Guild, but I'd bet there are individuals out there who would be more than willing to lend a needle as well.

Mundanely - Darling is taking the Muffin to see the ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) specialist this afternoon in regards to her tonsils. I suspect they will come out. Hopefully THAT won't be a budget-breaker. Still, better now than when she's 12. She'll just recover better.

Now I feel bad that I didn't track you down earlier in the day and calligraph something for you. I totally hear you on the not doing scrolls point; that's one thing I'm really happy about now that I'm no longer a regional signet I have time to do scrolls instead of just callig blanks!

All the same as much as I don't miss the job I do miss hanging with the scribes and lining up those choice assignments. You know the ones... when you call the scribe and they go "OOOO! Yes!!" and are all happy to get the assignment because it's for someone they know and love :) The short notice court lists however... *sigh* A pity they didn't think to have a scribe's area!

Daffyd's going to be Dragon, eh? Cool :)

Don't even worry about it. It's probably as well that I have some left for Val Day, as that's likely to be pretty hairy, too. And one of those I backlogged I didn't even HAVE a suitable blank to use. So I felt it was better to let it go and have something nice done, than to do a rush job.

I'll miss knowing what Court will have on the list. And working with Taffy, and making assignments I know scribes will enjoy. But I need a break, too. ;-) Maybe I can get my sewing mojo back, then.

We should have a LJ friends meetup. This would force us to sit down and talk. For real. Alot. In Person.

I think we're going to be working on trims and stuff for HRM as well. It's probably the most reasonable garb request I've heard of in a long time actually. Many hands will make light work of that.

Pretty much what I said to TRH's chamberlain. I thought it was sort of sweet that she was concerned that it might be a rude request. I told her that a specific request was often easier to deal with than a vague "Oh, whatever you'd like to do."
