Well, since the ol' slide off has sort of post-poned my Christmas shopping until at least I get paid on Wednesday, I'm just makin' lists. (I was sort of hoping for a Christmas bonus at the party today at lunch. No such luck :-( Maybe on payday? Or p'rhaps not at all. *sigh*)

I found some of the BIG zip bags at Lowe's on clearance, so I intend to start organizing my projects into one-to-a-bag projects. I'm trying to work out how it would work best. One total outfit to a bag? Or one garment to a bag? In other words, should I put ALL the makins for chemise, gown, kirtle, partlet, and apron in one bag? Or chemise in one bag, gown in another, kirtle in another, other accessories in another? I think I'll start with:

Northern Dutch outfit
1530's outfit
Dutch outfit for John

Thoughts?

I also need to go visit [livejournal.com profile] ablackram in the hopes of getting some Christmas sewing done - a few things for John, Rori's ring stacker, etc.

Hopefully tonight's ride home will be uneventful. The weather has been foul as only Lakeshore weather can be. When I got up at 4:30 to feed the baby, it was 53 F, and raining (I know, as my roof was still leaking). By 8 AM it was 17 F. Can you say "flash freeze?" I took the van, as the trucklet isn't really worthy of fighting those conditions just yet. I was afraid it's brakes were going, until I realized that the traction control system was engaged. THAT takes some getting used to.

Off to pretend to work some more. Or rather, to see some clients who pretend they're going to pay us - later. *eye roll*

If it were me, I'd put all the chemise-parts in one bag, the kirtle parts in another bag, etc. Then, I'd put all of those bags into one big bag. So, the big bag would say "Dutch Outfit for John" while each of the smaller bags would be labeled things like "John's Dutch Shirt".

But that's just me. :-)

That's EXACTLY what I was going to say.

And if you do some stuff on the machine, and other stuff by hand, I usually try to put not just the materials, but thread, needles, and if I can find one, a pair of scissors in the little bag of project, ready for hand work. Then if I'm actually going to have time at an event, or on the way, I can just grab the ziploc, and go.

(Of course, I usually drive, and with kids, don't often have time at events, soo, the projects aren't finishing themselves.)

The other thing is to put a note into the bag, or just write on the bag, with where you are in terms of progress on the project. Like - "All fabric & notions for chemise", then "chemise cut out", then "long seams finished, hand stitch collar, cuff, & hem.", etc.

I have spent a fair bit of time trying to remember what my next step was supposed to be. I need to do a better job of labels.

The list is a good plan. In fact, maybe if I'm smart I'll enclose a checklist. As well as a list of materials that AREN'T in the bag for whatever reason (not acquired yet, in another bag, etc.)

Thanks!

I try to carry a basic sewing kit separate, with scissors, needles, wax, awl, etc. But matching thread or other specialized tidbits ought to be there, too. Maybe in a smaller baggie.

Good plan. Way more organized than my befuddled brain had managed so far... which should help me STAY that way

...oh look, a bunny!
