Starting the New Year with a Bang

So, my parents decided to abscond with my child for a few days. Well - MOM decided. Dad was probably ready to throw her against the way inside 12 hours. Mom wanted her for a week. I suggested a few days. She's never been away from home, and she starts school again tomorrow. That part being taken care of, my husband and I decided to clean the house. For which I am now apparently being punished. *sigh*
By clean, I mean strip things off the furniture, move them around, and wash walls, baseboards, doorjambs, windowsills, and other surfaces. Having done all that - my drain system has backed up. I'm hoping it's not due to the amount of dirt and dust that got dumped down it. I tried to be fairly careful about grabbing large chunks of debris. But still. WHY? Argggghhh. So, no shower this morning. And only God in Heaven knows how much THIS will set us back.
The Darling has set June as his goal for meeting the phsyical requirements for re-entry into the Corps and setting up an appointment with a recruiter. He's planning for it, unless he A. gets flat rejected, or B. has such a lucrative job by then that it will be a serious mistake to go.
So, my house is still a bit of a shambles - since it's not all put back yet. I got no sewing done. I got nothing done on scrolls for this weekend. Which isn't a disaster, since I still can just letter a couple blanks. And may. But I'm beginning to feel like I'm running around in circles (insert Dad quip - "Shut up, or I'll nail your other foot to the floor.").
The upside is that Darling got me an i-Tunes card for Christmas. Likely the only way I was going to learn my way around that system. So I downloaded a new Irish music album last night and burned my very first CD. Yeah, me.
And tonight, Mom and Dad return my Small One to me. As well as hopefully bringing the books that she'd bought for Christmas that came just after. Which John left at my sister's place. So I haven't yet had the chance to indulge. I've also been on call for a solid week, which always makes me SUCH a delight. At least it's followed by a solid week off. Though now I'm wishing I HAD more emergencies to do, to pay for the plumber.
