I'm so over-tired and it so shows. *sigh*

I'm busy pulling the ol' ribbon off the linen, as it requires little in the way of active attention or manual dexterity. And contemplating the ins and outs of a website as my body of research in Dutch costuming grows. (I JUST remembered that I have a friend in grad school in Amsterdam. *g* Maybe she'll find me some goodies. E-mail is somewhat limited for file size. Any bright ideas on how she could send me large files?)

In my defense.... I do like listening to the Lime and Violet knitting podcast. So today's weird idea:

A podcast on historical costuming. Hosted by mineself and Baroness Alaina. With interviews with various costuming afficianados. Cause we know a couple of those. Just wondering how we'd manage to interview the Overseas folks without it costing an arm and a leg. And what sort of hardware and software we'd need. And what I'd have to offer 'Laina to get her to do it. And would there be an audience?

Many moons ago I was carrying on at length in regards to an image of what I call the Leiden Gown just for ease of referring to it as something unique. And I had mentioned an engraving that made visible the gusset under the arm in the side seam. I'd thought it was a print of Esther. Wrong Old Testament woman. It was a print of "Potiphar's Wife Accusing Joseph." Zoom the image to see what I mean:

While I was looking I found some other fun stuff.

A portrait of Sabine, Duchess of Simmern:

One of Amalia von Neuenahr-Alpen (I love these little watercolors. Alba Amicorum are my new thing)

One of Anna van Egmond, Grafin van Buren:

And some info on lace history, including a bio of Barbara Uthmann:

I suspect the statue is modern.

And some info on the heart of lacemaking in Germany:

Plus a book that might be worth a read. Need to find some reviews:

All in all, an interesting afternoon of surfing. Since none of my appointments are coming in.

All right, I'll freely admit since I'm not on call this week (except Wednesday, which is something of a special case), I probably OUGHT to have a drink. Or two. Though I think I'll go after the perry and English Cider in the fridge....

But I've been wondering about a couple of things:

First, has the BoD ruling that anything entitled "Known World" has to go through them more or less killed the Known World Costuming Symposium. Which I thoroughly enjoyed the one time I went and would like to go back to if I get a chance.

Second, the Middle Kingdom (for those of you in other locales) used to put on a Fall and Spring RUM (Royal University of the Midrealm). This is an event devoted entirely to classes. No tournaments or anything - though there might be martial classes. It looks like, after failing to come off at all on occasion, that has been reduced to an annual occurence. I'm thinking this is wise, as it's a rather large endeavor. And it's often difficult in this region to find sites that can accomodate 6-8 tracks of classes. One or more of which might be martial and require some space. I note that the new Spring RUM is on the schedule, a mere 2 1/4 hour drive from my home.

I'm wondering if this would be a worthwhile chance to try to assemble enough information to do a class on 16th century Dutch costuming. I don't quite have enough info yet, but I probably could if I expended a bit more effort. Or would that be too narrow of a focus for RUM? I don't always teach all that well. I make mental leaps and expect everyone to follow along. Which doesn't always happen. Still, it's not until the end of March. So I ought to have plenty of time to get a handout together. *ponder*

Time for bed. Actually, probably PAST time for bed.
