Having decided to do something for Darling to go with my new obsession, I now get to start back off at the bottom of the learning curve for Dutch men's costume. Feel free to come along for the ride if you wish. As always, commentary, additions, and corrections are welcome and sought after. Men's costume seems to vary a little less than women's. I'm on a hunt for the details that say "Dutch."

Love this sketch. The seam detail! And that style of ruff doesn't look English, does it?

More details. Love the hat. Is that almost a blanket-stitch on the bottom hem of the jerkin?

I like all the little tidbits you can find here: The slit hems of the Galligaskins, the ruffs on some of the men, despite it being a labor scene, variations in costume, and of course, the pointy hat.

This must be very late 16th century to early 17th, judging by the hat. Like the lady's partlet, though.

More coolness. And spiffy shoes!

Look at the fine, fine quality on the fabric the ruff is made of. It's so sheer!

Yeah, armor, but the whole set up that holds up boots and hose is cool.

This one is so very elegant:

This one is almost more fun for the two little girls. Hmmmm, would I do that to Boo?

Heh, Darling DOES like fur:

Gad, do i need someone to keep me on track, or what? *sigh*

Whilst waiting for replies on the cheeseladies, and the opportunity to put in for an ILL, I 've dug up some more fun on a new angle. Dutch children's costume, of the 16th century.

Here's a much better scan of that little girl with her dolly. Do you suppose that started life as a fashion doll? Or was it made as a toy? Perhaps the Attack Laurel has an opinion?

And I have now put a request on this book, since the local library system holds it:

Found two more that the Lakeland Library Cooperative DOESN'T have, so wondering if they're worth of ILL:

Portrait #4, oh that little girl's coif!!

And some more nice men's details:

Fun, all the way 'round.

I really, REALLY need to read the legend on this one. Oh my!!

BTW, it is very hard to blog with a kitty on your shoulder. I had to bring D'artagnan to work, since he has a giant eosinophilic plaque that developed over the weekened. Since he was here, I gave him his vaccines. Now he wants nothing but to be cuddled and sleep it all off. I've given him complete liberty of my office. He wants MAMA.
