Brief Political Commentary
May. 4th, 2010 07:04 amOK, normally I do not get up onto my soapbox around here. I love ya all, even the "Godless Liberals." ;-)
I'm not really a Republican, a NeoCon, or any of the other handy-dandy labels. (I'm much, much worse - from the perspective of those currently in vogue. I think the Federal Gov't pretty much exists to administer the Military, Insterstate Highways, International Diplomacy, and that's about it).
But one thing has really bothered me the past few days. From the moment the Times Square car bomb turned up, accusations flew. The media focused mostly on "Islamic radicals." What bothers me? The number of people, whilst rightly mentioned that this was a rush to judgment, who turned right around and pointed fingers at Conservatives in general and the Tea Party specifically. To include Michael Bloomberg.
WTF, people? This is either a knee-jerk attempt to tar everybody who disagrees with the Liberal line with the same brush, or buying the media line hook, line, and sinker. This is a group that has no history of violence. Most of the "incidents" reported by Democratic lawmakers after the passage of the healthcare bill were either made up, exaggerations, or lone loonies. The Tea Party "rhetoric" (and that's what it is, I'll freely admint) doesn't advocate violence. It advocates getting involved with the political system again.
Look at the history of the country. It was not intended to run the way it's running. It wasn't designed for a two-party system, it was designed for a NO party system. All of the regulations about majorities and minorities and committee chairs is nothing but tradition. And the Federal Government has way overgrown the intent of its founders. It isn't supposed to be squeezing the life out of the States, it's supposed to more or less exist at their sufferance. YES, there is such a thing as State's Rights. And they don't involved unfunded mandates. Think back - when did the vernacular move from These United States to The United States. That'll tell you about when things really started to go wrong.
So stop it. Just because the Tea Party folks are displeased with the Obamessiah doesn't make them flag-drapped, fertilzer-soaked, exploding evil radicals. No, I don't go to the rallies. (I think they tend to get too distracted from Government reform by "wedge issues" and the myth of "social justice"). And, yes, it's true that there's no cause so right you can't find a fool following it. I'm sure there are some nut jobs at the rallies. But not near so many as MSNBC would like you to think. But they hardly deserve to be vilified because others are feeling insecure about all their "entitlements."
