I had this idea go sprinting through my head today. (Don't worry, I'll undoubtedly circle back to the Project Runway thing another time, I'm sure).
If you could find a site (Maybe a school or ISD that runs a cooking program....) it might be fun to invite teams of cooks to sign up for a competition:
Give them $100 budget, 45 minutes at Sam's Club/similar, and one grocery bag full of "brung from home" ingredients - and the course of the day to make noshes to serve to those attending the nosh-fest later that evening. More small buffet tables than a seated feast. Possibly with both judges and a populace "bean count" of sorts.
OK, so working out the logistics would be tough. But there might be something in it....
