I made another batch of the GF bread today (sort of my weekly "chore"), and this time used a litte more of the HiMaize flour Mom got me. And it's still about as good as GF gets (It makes better bread pudding that in does sandwiches...)

John went out to get bottles to bottle the beer he's making for presentation to the B&B. And the brew supply store is expanding, to add a few other tidbits. They already have an extensive brewery selection (as well as being a liquor store with a good microbrew selection), winemaking, and cheesemaking - Oh, and coffees, teas, and cigars. They want to add green coffee beans and home roasting equipment, as well as artisanal bread materials.

Problem: They bought the shop next door, knocked out the wall, got most of the rennovations done - and got stopped by a City Commissioner fussing about the "changes to traffic patterns" that will be created by a "bigger liquor store." Except that the liquor portion isn't getting bigger. And, likely the percentage of his receipts that come from liquor sales is likely to DROP. Hopefully he'll put specific information on this blog later. He'd asked John to write a letter of support today.

Especially since John came home and encouraged me to do some REAL bread baking again. I haven't really bothered since I took Anneliese GF. And I used to do it All. The. Time. I made white bread regularly, and interspersed it with challah, brioche, focaccia, ciabatta, and English muffins and other things. To say nothing of period breads - I did quite a bit of work on figuring out how to successfully bake with ale yeast. Nice to sort of have "permission" to work with it again, especially since the girls aren't likely to be that interested in more rustic breads. I still want to try for GF croissants, though.

Alton's commentary on "bland, awful processed ricotta cheese" has made me want to make some home made ricotta. Which will necessitate making cheese, first. I thought about it today, but none of the local stores carry Mooville milk (the only reasonably priced non-homogenized milk around here. Maybe next week.

I promise a better update after Golden Seamstress. I've been a busy girl today, so I'm going to go watch Cupcake Wars... and then go to bed.
