Yay Inspiration! The comment I hear the most on my truffles is "OMG, you MADE this?? *shock*". Ultimate flattery right there. =D
The best reaction I've gotten for anything I've made so far though was over my lemon curd - Baroness F(ack I've forgotten her name)-something. She was drizzling it straight onto her finger she liked it so much, so I sent it home with her at the end of the night. =D
I like the light blue on the header, when it is on the white, it gets a little harder to read. I would make the it in the same family, but a little darker for the white.
It's nice. Simple clean elegant, and it looks like I can find stuff. I like the red accents. Nice 'pop'. And the brown makes nice sophisticated pallet. I can not wait to see the whole site.
And that's my ebul webminister of DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM personal opinion.
Yeah, I can easily use the more saturated blue that's being used for th H1 in the body.
Now I get to go convert to HTML. Then convert the HTML to a Joomla! template. Then bang on it until I get the php right for collapsing columns. ;-) Luckily, I'm going home this weekend, and I can probably bludgeon Dad into helping out. I've also discovered "Portable Apps" - So my image software, HTML editor, FTP client, Mozilla (gotta add the Developer toolbar...), and files are on a Flash Drive.
It'll probably be a while before I get tired of teasing you about that. Good thing you're not closer or it might involved pink garb, pink foodstuffs, etc.
Though it does say something about color, tinting strength, and the human eye. A page made entirely of that color would probably leave a green retinal shadow for an hour after you viewed it!
Now see, that's just mean. ;-) If you were closer, you might be in danger of a fabric mugging.
Though, I have to say, I try not to wear pink myself - really, really not my color. I like the Flemish pink in the market paintings, but I would NOT look good in it.
I keep telling myself that I should join my SCA friends at Pennsic one of these times (I have a number of them that fly or drive out from CA almost every year)...
My approach to making this into a joomla template differs a bit from yours, but trust me, I've done what you're trying to do, and am not sure its really worth the time to re-create the wheel from scratch, especially the general site template structure, css formating/padding/margins, etc. Best of luck this weekend!
I'd suggest going a little more blue/gray with your cyan color, so that's it's legible on the dark AND light backgrounds. I randomly clicked on the PS color palette and ended up with A4CDE0, but YMMV since I'm on a Mac and my monitor tends to be a bit brighter.
Also, I think your header is a bit larger than necessary, since it's just a title with minimal background. You could probably tighten that up a bit and you'd end up with more room for your content (pre-scroll). And honestly, if this mockup is 100%, your bar of links is pretty large as well.
I spent like 10 minutes in Photoshop fiddling with it, and made a couple of changes, but our image server isn't letting me upload anything at the moment. If you're interested, I can email it. I didn't do much, but tighten up the header a bit, and even that was without knowing your platform (or having the right fonts or anything in layers for easy adjusting). It's possible that things are the size they are because of templates or something and my suggestions could be totally pointless.
I'll check that hex code in GIMP when I get two seconds.
I have to twiddle around with the template.
Some of the size is because of other modules that will get plugged in. The search module will go in the right side of the header, for instance. And there will be some code for today's date, either in the nav bar or I'll end up putting a breadcrumbs bar underneath.

Date: 2010-04-23 01:43 pm (UTC)I think I'll do it from the ground up because:
A. I have instructions for doing it that way, and it's sometimes easier to follow along when you don't go too far astray from them.
B. The practice at HTML and CSS is good for me. The more I use it now, the less I'll have to "relearn" each time I go to fiddle with it.
If that makes sense?
