For the purposes of SCA armoured kit those are all good inspiration. Though not knowing his present kit I don't know what you want to tweak.
My kit, which can be seen here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/beothuk/4537218376/in/faves-68308572@N00/) consists of metal legs, arms, shoulders and breast/back plate (kind of). For the cloth side of things I have hose that I wear under my leg armour, which I don't pad. I have a gambison that I have my shoulders and arms laced to. I wear the waffenrock overtop with the breast/back plate over that. This goes relatively well.
Does that help with the inspiration? If you have a specific image in mind that you want to achieve let me know and I can help you with how to make that work in the SCA armour context.

The other side of the spectrum can be seen here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/lord_edricus/3669869712/in/faves-68308572@N00/), this guy has very light low profile kit. Other than the breast/back plate all his armour is hidden. Probably padded legs and arms under the doublet.
