Just like everybody else...
1. Mundane Name:
Holly
2. Mundane Job:
Veterinarian
3. Persona name:
Femke de Roas
4. How did you come up with your name?
I _HUNTED_ for Frisian sources. With the help of Master Talan I managed to come up with one that I could make a case for. In the end, the CoA wasn't SURE, but didn't have the resources to really argue about it so they gave me the benefit of the doubt. Since then I've come into possession of a book entitled _Friese Persoonsnamen_ which is unfortunately in Dutch and I haven't got 'round to translating it.
5. Where and when did your persona live?
Leeuwarden (Now in the Province of Friesland in the Netherlands). I'd originally set her around 1380. But now I'm sort of drifting to 1525.
6. What is your Known World Location?
Barony of Andelcrag. I don't play with the local Canton.
7. What kingdom do you consider to be your home?
Kingdom of the Middle
8. How long have you played?
I think we went to our first event in 2001. Then took a hiatus to deal with the Micropreemie. Came back into the game when she was nearly a year old.
9. How did you get started?
I always WANTED to investigate when I was in college, but couldn't get anybody to walk me to and from meetings. Nor is MSU a good campus to wander at night alone. So it wasn't till I was all growed up and found a chapter in Grand Rapids that I really got involved.
10. Why did you join?
I'm a professional student. I like always having something to learn, work, study for. If I wasn't doing the SCA, I'd probably be persuing the Handweavers Guild's spinning certification or something similar.
11. Have you registered a name?
Yessirree
12. Have you registered a device?
Not only is it registered, it's recently redesigned for better period style: Azure, on a maunch argent a rose proper.
13. What awards have you been granted? In what kingdom did you receive these awards?
AoA 2004
Order of the Golden Willow - 2005 (Kingdom AoA-level arts award) Middle Kingdom
14. How many events do you attend each year?
Hmmm, 6-8?
15. What is the best event you have ever been to?
I enjoy any event where I can leave the Muffin at Camp Grandma. ;-) I really enjoy Twelfth Night. Wish I had spiffier garb to wear.
16. What is the worst event you have ever been to?
Squire's Revolt, several years ago. The site was just rotten. A mowed field, and we hadn't know that in advance. The ground was 6" high cut-off dead reeds and they HURT. I couldn't even let Anneliese out of her stroller. NO shade.
17. What event do you make it to every year?
Val Day.
18. What event do you refuse to go to.
Squire's Revolt (see above), unless the site has changed significantly.
19. Who is your favorite person to hang at an event with?
Mistress Zaynab, Baroness Alaina
20. What activities do you participate in?
I'm the Regional Signet, so that always eats a fair portion of any event with Royalty attending. Costuming, needlework, scribal arts, book heraldry.
21. What activity would you like to learn?
I'm experimenting with lace making. Next on the list is panel painting and silverpoint.
22. Are you a marshal?
No.
23. How many tents have you had destroyed at events?
None.
24. Has your garb ever caught on fire?
No.
25. Have you ever woke up in a strange person’s tent?
Having never camped an event, no.
26. Do you have a pavilion?
*whine* No.
27. Are you a peer?
No
28. Do you ever want to be a peer?
I'd like to develop that skill set. I'd like to think I already value the other qualities enough to be working toward them even if I weren't SCA.
29. Is a coincidence that peer rhymes with beer?
Have you MET Master Odo?
30. Are you a squire, apprentice or protegee?
Nope. I'm not sure anybody could put up with me. My attention span is too short and I always have something going. Most Laurels would probably smack me in the back of the head inside a week and disown me in utter disgust. Neither I nor my husband have ever even been approached on the subject. I wonder what that says?
31. Who would you like to be squired, apprenticed or protegee'd to?
I'm not entirely sure. Well, Willemyne, if I lived closer. I adore Mistress Zaynab, but I think I'd make her completely nucking futs.
32. What is your war cry?
There is a time and a place for tact. And there are times when tact is entirely misplaced.
33. Have you ever been pulled off of the field for your safety?
No.
34. What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you in armour?
It involved Darling's armor and we're not going to go there.
35. Have you read Corpora?
Yes, more than once.
36. Circlets, how do you feel?
I have one, it's OK. It goes nice with the cotehardie, not so much with the later period Dutch stuff.
37. What household(s) do you belong to?
None. I've tried to avoid the Household business since it adds another layer of politics.
38. If you could change one thing about the SCA what would it be?
The Political manuevering and dedicated Throne Toadies. And the D&D-live sorts that wander around with elf-ears, wearing insufficient bunny skins to constitute covering their persons. Or black leather bodices, crushed velvet skirts, too much make up and chainmail jewelry. *face palm*
39. What is your favorite part of the SCA?
The phenomenal people that do REALLY cool research and recreation. The fact that they put up with ME, since I'm not on that level (yet). And the pagenatry (when done right).
40. What is your SCA Goal for the next 7 years?
Better garb for me, Darling, and Boo. A dedicated web site to put my research and dress diaries on. Acquisition of furnishings for a period camp and a spiffy pavilion. The Muffin to get far enough along in her development to be ABLE to camp with her and not lay awake all night to prevent her from wandering off.
