Busy Weekend

This got rather long-winded, so follow the cut if you're interested.
I managed to survive the second spay/neuter clinic. This one was a factor of magnitude larger than the last - 200 cats and dogs. 7 veterinarians. So I think I hit
around 30 surgeries or so. At least this time, everybody kept up. Though there were
three of the doctors that I found very demanding and whiny and wanted to smack repeatedly. I don't know how on earth the three girls who do the assisting manage not to tell them where to stick it. They're very sweet, and I made it a point to tell them so. Two of them asked if I'd be back again for more of these clinics. Hmmmm, not for a while. I've reached the point where ten hours really takes me to the end of my stamina. And I really mean pretty much ten hours of solid surgery - I did take a 20 minute break for lunch and there were brief lulls when we got out of synch with the anesthesia section, but other than that.... Though Bruce did promise he'd mail checks this week. Hopefully he means for BOTH clinics. Then I can turn around next week when I'm not on call and finish my Christmas shopping in a white heat of utter delight.
On the way home my back and feet were so sore I had a hard time driving. (Note to self - avoid doing this at locations that are 1 1/2 hours away from home without making car pool arrangements). And even today my hands are still sore. Must be gettin' old - the thumb and pinky on my left hand just ache.
We went to my office Christmas part last night and had a good time. Though Darling woke up sick around 4 AM. I'm guessing some sort of staph food poisoning. T'will be interesting to see how much of my staff shows up in the morning. The fact that I wasn't really hungry last night and didn't eat much, and that the Muffin never eats anything at these events but chips and crackers, is actually a bonus this time, as both of us are fine. At least we had fun while we were there. Hey, bonding with other adults! The Muffin was decent, though not at her best. Certainly not inclined to be terribly interactive. And utterly uninterested in playing with Ann's little boy. At least she did condescend to bestow goodbye kisses on Kelly and Shauna. And Ann was permitted to kiss the Royal Cheek.
And I've hit the stage in my pregnancy where I just sort of get contented. The nausea and some of the bone-deep fatigue has passed off. And I'm not yet plagued by feeling too cumbersome, nor having to deal with edema. Though in hindsight, it could be that everything was going sour even by 5 months last time, as I remember having swollen ankles at the family reunion in early august, and I wasn't due until December. Or it may have just been the heat. At any rate, I seem to have come to the end of my little crisis of mind. I'm going to stick to my guns regarding the VBAC, unless circumstances take that decision out of my hand. And I feel so much better having reached that decision that it just seems like I know I'm right. I don't GET that sensation very often.
I'm also trying to organize my research and determine my focus for my class for RUM. I'm not sure if I should just try to focus on the Cheese Ladies - what the layers likely are, and how to put it together. Or if I should try for a general overview of Dutch women's dress in the 16th century. That timeline has more holes in it, for me. But I could probably manage to hit the highlights. I still think the early 1530's dress is interesting.
Now that I think of it, I probably even have enough material to do an entire class on 16th century women's headcoverings. The sheer variety of headscarfs, coifs, caps, etc is rather dizzying. I've never even tried to sort for patterns. Maybe I ought to at some point.
