Things that make me scratch my head

1. My husband has a habit of putting dubious things in his mouth, then being surprised when Bad Things Happen. For instance - when you are at a local dive with malfunctioning A/C and the only waitress says "Oh, I didn't think anybody would want soup in this heat. But I can warm some up!" - Do not eat the crab bisque
2. The concept of making a permanent site for Spring Crown/A&S - in the far corner of the Kingdom. I feel loved. Can you say "Principality?" I knew you could.
3. People whose costuming research leads them to do things like: "Velvet is period. Slashing is period. I'm going to make a slashed doublet out of cotton velvet." This will Go Badly (TM). Fraycheck is not your friend here. You can line it and finish all the slashes. But woe to you if you don't. If you really want slashing - wool is your friend.
4. The general nobody-wants-to-be-the-bad-guy tendency to not enforce rules. Why?
5. Why people don't come to understand that willing is not = to competence.
6. The need to make Households into local groups. Clique Power?
7. If absolute power corrupts absolutely... what do power tools do?

6. Power... always power... Heard at a meeting many moons ago "Well if we can't have the power, then what's the point?"... it's true...
5: willing could just be too stupid to say "no" lol

Date: 2009-06-25 01:03 pm (UTC)I have a mental image here of the old "He-Man" cartoon. "I have the POOWWEERRRR!!!"
What power, I'd like to know? It's a game, folks.
Yeah, and sometime's it's refer to number 6. *sigh*

Date: 2009-06-27 01:17 am (UTC)And I know that more than one bid from the Region up on the rotation has gotten turned down, too. Plus, while putting the date for Fall Crown into Law helps other groups plan fall events, it makes it HARDER to bid for Crown. You have to use THAT weekend, not the weekend your chosen venue is available. (Which, as an aside, is what makes setting the Regional Faires dates into law an incredibly bad idea, as well) Causing, again, a perfectly good bid from the Region up in the Rotation to be rejected in favor of an out-region bid because it was on the "wrong" weekend. So I would call if 50% not getting the bids and 50% rejecting workable bids because they're inconvenient in one way or another. (Read here: Further than the sitting Crown, Curia, and general staff feels like going) There needs to be a give-and-take.
The site in Cinci is nice, I will grant. But it's not so nice that it's worth putting Kingdom A&S that far out of reach of that much of the Kingdom. Not every bloody year.
For what its worth, from the view up here (and this isn't just me, but becoming relatively prevalent) is that the major "weight," if you will, in the Kingdom is very much centered in Ohio. Crown changes every 6 months, so that doesn't have nearly as much effect. But a lot of the other decision making seems very centered in that area. And apparently the rest of us can go hang.
