OK, progress report:

I managed to fix the bug that was causing my linked pages to not display. It was a php problem, not my template. Which makes me feel good. And, yeah! I found it and fixed it. ;-) Dad would be proud.

I've decided to try some CSS code for rounded corners, rather than bother with the sliding doors technique - images as big as my articles would be a serious pain in the keister.

I have some php in the XHTML document to provide collapsible columns, once I get to the point that I'm using the right or left modules. Since I don't have any yet, I don't have anything to debug there - I suspect there will be.

Now, if anybody webby wants to go kick a couple tires for me....

on my PC, things are looking fairly decent in Mozilla.

In IE, my rounded corners code falls apart..... ???

And, worse yet, in Chrome, nothing below the header displays at all. Now, I THINK the issue here is with the little bit of javascript in the XHTML document that displays the date. Which I suppose I don't have to have, but rather like.

I'm open to whatever advice you might have for fixing things, other techniques for rounded corners and thoughts on being compliant with most browsers. (Though why, in the name of all that is holy, anybody in their right mind uses IE I will never know. The code is so clunky you can practically hear it splonk. Not to mention the security issues, the non-support problems, and the bloody proprietary font issue - which I think is what might be spiking my wheel with getting the @font-face aspect of CSS to work, though I'm not sure).

In short - Pooo.

ETA - Fixed the Chrome issue with a new bit of Java Script. Haven't rechecked IE. WHY DOES ANYBODY USE IE?

ETA2 - Nope, still broke in IE. :-P

wish I was code savvy... troubleshooting CSS make my head hurt...
Miss the days when I was up with the times and could easily code everything by hand and actually be up to date, oh yeah... and troubleshoot in my sleep :P almost :P

I actually really like CSS. Most of the time.

I might have to just look for another way to do the rounded corners, if I can't find an IE hack to fix the issue.

The bigger snag these days is that to do anything dynamic, you have to be able to at least wrap your head around php.

Looks good and loads fast enough on my dial-up and firefox - do you mean to have "footer1" visible at the bottom of the pages?

No, and that's something I have to remember to go fix in Joomla! Basically, I have to remember to turn off the Global config that displays each module title.

I intend to stick a little Java in there to maintain the Copyright statement without my having to alter it each year.

Fixed the Chrome issue by putting a different script in for the date module, but now I get to restyle that. :-P

And figure out how to get the secondary nav to display on the left and not screw up the nav bar. I'm debating doing major structural stuff NOW, since the next version (due out in July) is supposed to add deeper nesting of categories (now only 2 deep). Which would significantly alter my site map. So.... *ponder*

When you start to add photos, that will be the real test for me - dial-up sucks - but some pages load the navigation & all the text and then work on the photos, others seem to drag it all out forever. I'm not sure why. And I'm always in favor of small photos, that are clickable to hi-res versions - again, dial-up sucks.

It shouldn't be a huge issue, as I've kept them fairly small. No larger than they are in the "old page".

The content is loaded out, I just have to figure out how to link in the secondary nav so you can go look. ;-)

Once I have the structure set up, then I'll be able to just add new content at the drop of a hat. Which is the whole point, after all. No coding each page individually.

And, really, I could have used a stock template. I'm just in the mood to make it look like me. ;-)
