Siege and some thoughts on reputation

We got to spend Saturday at the Siege of Talonvale, sans Muffin - who was at Camp Grandma. This was a Good Thing(TM). I was feeling, if not antisocial, then certainly not up to putting a lot of effort into sociability. So, after helping Duchess Arabella put up her pop-up and hunting down some membership forms for fighters whose cards had just expired and finding Collette a sparring partner to authroize with, I curled up in my chair and mostly worked on my reticella. Court was long, but fairly entertaining for the most part. Ziggy made a very good showing in the Shire Champion Tourney, losing by a hair. We were pulling for you, dear. Exchanged pleasantries with Sir Dirk, who is possibly the nicest member of the Chiv ever. He's just adorable.
Which brings to mind the other end of the spectrum. How soul-shriveled must you be to in short order become known as "The Mean Laurel" - to a degree that no one has much trouble determining who this epithet refers to. Peerlike qualities? Where are they? I swear, this woman eats babies for breakfast. If she'd earned a Coronet, she might have gotten dubbed "The Blood Countess" instead. Everybody has off days, but this one is so consistently unpleasant, one must wonder who on Earth was ever inclined to elevate her. She has clearly graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Attack Laurel Academy. And in this case, the student has surpassed the teacher! (note: I find the Attack Laurel (TM) herself to be devoid of any actual venom and a wholly likable, helpful, give-the-shirt-of-her-back sort.... but we won't let that get out. It might damage enrollment.)
Elsewise, I did get the parchment for Master Mordak's scroll trimmed to working size. And had a long chat with Dad about Things. He wanted to revisit a few of them, but we never quite got time. I think he felt a bit bad about making me weepy, but I think he understands more where I'm at and where I'm going. Which is a good thing as well.

Date: 2007-07-09 06:41 pm (UTC)BTW - one of the good folks on the German Ren Costuming list has some photos purchased from the same museum that the Cranach portrait hangs in. Would you have any interest in my passing on the link when she posts them? Don't know if the others will have much Polish/Eastern interest or not, but there it is.
And since you're somewhat more "plugged in" than I am... was there no Known World Costuming Symposium this year?
