Well, we picked up the freezer today so - Yeah!! Now we get to fill it. Though Mom and Dad are doing their level best to fill it for us. ;-)

A trip to the farmer's market netted MI seedless grapes, white peaches, wax beans, tomatoes, Italian roasting peppers, potatoes, sweet corn, cilantro, and I'm probably forgetting something. Tomorrow - I freeze the beans and can the 'maters.

I'm a bit disappointed in the Westwind Milling Co. Last time we were there I bought a bag of unbleached bread flour - for which I paid a premium, since it's "organic" and stone ground. Opened it up - whole wheat flour. Ummm. Not even close, guys. I mean, this isn't even wheat bread flour. It's got ALL the bran. Which is fine, but not what I wanted. Sometime soon I must go down to Holland and try the flour that's ground at the windmill on Windmill Island.

I made a batch of bread today. And some peanut butter muffins. Neither of which Anneliese got to try, as she came down with the evil G.I. bug that has been making the rounds at my house.

Also realized today that we can get a Villa at Disney (studio) for what we're paying for the room we have reserved. So we'll see if we can get one. ;-) It might be nice to have the kitchenette with the girls. And hey, it's the slowest time of the year. Maybe we'll even get upgraded to something bigger.

Sometime in the next little while we have to figure out what sort of dining reservations we want. We're going to try for Cinderella's Royal table - but that's pretty unlikely. Other than that - HHmmm, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Review, Le Cellier, The San Angel Inn, and Mama Melrose's are on the short list.

Mom and Dad bought Anneliese Dance, Dance Revolution - Disney Groove for her birthday. And then got themselves a Wii. ;-) I'm not sure what brought this on - if they think the girls will like it. Or if they really are interested themselves. We took the Wii Fit home once, to show mom. But she didn't really seem that interested. They can be hard to fathom some days.

Off to design an opus teutonicum chalice veil for a number of reasons. Or rather, to kill a number of birds with one stone.

Good news - I got the little Book done for Anneliese. She should enjoy it. :-) And I even remembered to save it for later in case the current copy gets ruined. Plus, lots more good research information to troll through. When I get time.

Bad news - it won't be tonight. Stupid lady finally showed up with the Black lab she wouldn't let me X-ray yesterday because she didn't want to spend the money. Sooooo..... I get to do my late-night trademark foreign body surgery. As Cheryl won't do it tomorrow anyway. Quick poll - will it be a piece of the ham bone they fed him or a rock from the campground?

So, the Costumer's Artist Trading Cards are done and launched.

Next project: A book for Anneliese about dance class. I need to ask Linsey to send me a picture to put into it. And get the Dance Bag organized with everything John will need and won't remember.

I've also found a costume museum in the Netherlands that specializes in the regional dress of Friesland, Drenthe, and Gronigen. So I'm in the process of finding out if they have anything pre-1600 in their collection.

The Sooper Secrud project continues to make progress forward. Need to ILL a copy of Queen Elizabeth's Closet. Dealing with ephemera can be so frustrating!

Trying to finish the Dutch dress, and not get distracted by [livejournal.com profile] hsifeng's Koln dress.

Rori had a stomach bug and was up vomiting a fair bit of the night. Luckily they make quick recoveries at that age. But I'm still pretty sleepy-tired.

Behr's new Ultra premium paint+primer=Faboo. Truly one coat coverage, except for putting dk. purple over gloss white. NOT low VOC however. Be warned. But there is a main color in Anneliese's room.

We have a dance aide! Linsey is adorable. And passionate about dancing. And Anneliese though highly enough of her to bestow several hugs unprompted. So, Yeah! Linsey!! Nice Dutch girl from GR, dyed in the wool CRC'er. Should work out great.

Barley batch 1 nearly dry - to be threshed this weekend. Batch two to be cut this weekend.

Landrace wheats arrived from the USDA SGR:
White Straw Tusan
Ble Blanc de la Reole - France
Ble Rouge de Bourdeaux - France (Gironde)
Touzelle Rouge de Provence - France
Orange Devon
Limburgse Kleine Rode - Limburg, Netherlands
Zeeuwse - Zeeland, Netherlands
Rode Ris - Netherlands

Now, to go make a chart of our Disney vacation and try to figure out where we're eating and what we're doing on which days. ;-)

Saturday was the MI Fiber Festival. A good time, as always, in good company. But Hot, OH was it HOT! This cut my enthusiasm and kept me from going back after things I was thinking about. Probably good in the long run. I was disappointed that both Ellen's 1/2 pint farm and Mielke's were missing this year. And the vendor selling Fleece Artist Fleece-lined Mitten Kits last year - didn't have any this year. So I got yarn for leg warmers and armwarmers for Boo. And a couple hats for Rori. And that's about it. Oh, and some nice Crystal Palace needles that were being Clearanced out.

Sunday we met Mom and Dad in Lansing for the Feis. Boo enjoyed watching the dancers and was quite delighted to be fitted for her very own pair of dancing shoes. She also got a couple pairs of poodle sox to wear with them (I restrained Grandma from trying to buy her the ones with rhinestones on them), and pick out a dance bag. I picked up two issues of a magazine, intending to cut out pictures to make her a book to get ready for dance class. However, she was so enamoured of them, I probably should download and print pictures, and let her keep the magazines!

Afterwards we went for Lunch. Dad tried to tell me how best to get to the restaurant, insisting that Saginaw runs Westbound. Having been on it an hour previously, I knew otherwise, but rather than argue, I had John take 496. ;-) Dad called my cell phone in a slightly embarassed panic to inform me that Saginaw is one way to the EAST. ;-) O, Rly? Heh.

At least this trip to Grandma and Grandpa's went better. Anneliese was a little better at eating for them, less aggravating all around, and everybody was happier. Though I still think a week would have been overkill.

I DID get her floor painted, though that's all, so far. At least that was the only part she really needed to be out of the house for!

I was stymied by both husband and baby as far as painting. Husband wanted to shop (?!?!) and baby wanted to nap. There is no painting upstairs while baby is napping in the next room. Too much noise!

BUT we did manage to get out for our Dinner Date. It was largely John's send off to his brother, who died a few years ago. But, since the Grandparents had my oldest, and Kayleigh was blissfully free to watch the youngest - we had our window of opportunity.

We had dinner at Louis Betton steakhouse in Grand Rapids. Excellent service, nice ambience, but a little more attention to the proprieties would have been nice, considering the expense involved. Food was OK, though not stellar. The raspberry martini was good, and the peanut butter pie excellent.

I think, however, that the food at the Amway is better, for a comparable price. And Louis, the Matire'D at the 1913 room would have descended in a heartbeat on the yutz behind us whose cell was going off incessantly. Still, it was nice to have a Date Night. Or 6 or 8 years of Date Night rolled into one. ;-)

Tomorrow, it's off to the Holland Farmer's Market (with cooler) as we will proceed directly to the Michigan Fiber Festival. John is coming along, so he and Paul will likely peruse vintage tractors, the Old Towne of Allegan, and gaze at sheep while us girlz shop for yarn, wool, and other esoteric feminine delights.

Sunday means meeting the Grandparents in Lansing at the Great Lakes Feis. We shall retrieve our oldest daughter, and buy her Irish Dance shoes and poodle socks. Maybe a dance bag and/or T-shirt as well.

Plans are on for the Disney Vacation (TM). Rebooked, but still at the Beach Club. Now to work on ADRs, tickets to the Very Merry Christmas Party, and a reservation at the Bibiddi Bobiddi Boutique. I will be hard pressed not to overdo that, since they are likely to have their "holiday" princess dresses available. With fur-trimmed capes. Tres cute!!

Got a few errands done - card out to Shawna, whose useless boyfriend was caught cheating and summarily dismissed. And a card to Felix and Madeleina's boy in MC Boot Camp - dispatched following all of John's rules on how to send support to a recruit that will BE supportive AND not draw the Unnecessary Attention of the Drill Instructor. ;-)

All in all, so contented for this brief time, it feels like Life on Mars. It won't last, I'm sure. But it is causing me to hope, as I've hardly dared hope before, that we will eventually toe ourselves out of this ditch and toward the things we want out of life. Here's hoping to be able to throw a rope to friends who've been struggling along with us and pull them out as well.

The new car and I are settling in together.

And I'm indulging myself in throes of delight planning our first trip to Disney World as a family. Using an agent - I'm not completely crazy. I might even see if I can get her to help set up Character dining - once we decide what we want to do. Fun stuff!

Hedgehog Handworks is doing free shipping for the month of August. That might make it worth my while to order the new Men's clothing book from Tudor Tailor.

Mom and Dad are taking Anneliese for a few days. So we'll be painting her room (teals, as everybody recommended). I have to go buy some stencil plastic. And the paint. And with luck I can get the room prepped this week.

This means I'll be Boo-free for Fiber fest. Maybe John will want to come along and play pack mule. (Not to onerous, as we'll have the stroller/shopping cart. ;-) Then on Sunday, we'll head for the Irish Dance competition. We can watch the dancers, get Boo fitted for shoes, do a little shopping, and then take her back home with us.

Sometime amidst all this, I need to finish painting the basement, get play-meetings set up for Anneliese with the candidates for her dance aide, make sure I have all of my vacation plans up and running, get some new garb sewn, and finish the chicken coop.

I also ran into Anneliese's teacher at Michaels (I was buying a 8x8 album to use as a character autograph book. I found the Cinderella one on clearance - I must check the other Michael's in GR for the matching Tinkerbell one so I've got one for each of the girls). She is more that OK with us taking her out of school for Disney. There will also be 3 girls in the class this year, so she's looking for dress-up clothes. I'm feeling guilty enough about all they do for Anneliese, that I may raid some of her collection as well as make a few things. Dress-up clothes don't have to be elaborate - just girly and pretty and elasticized.

Time to go get lunch and check for an e-mail back from my travel agent. ;-)

So, the clutch died on the little trucklet on Saturday on my way home from work. I'm likin' AAA. But now we await the Verdict from our mechanic. Gut instinct tells me it will either be an easy fix, or he'll say "Look guys, it's got 250K miles on it. There is not enough bailing wire in all of Michigan to keep this little thing on the road." So we may be car shopping again. *sigh*

John is still waiting to hear on the job he's been campaigning so hard for. Weird thing - two other subsidiaries of the same parent company have called to ask him if he's contract or a regular employee. To which he has answered "Neither, but I wouldn't turn down either!" I have no idea what THAT ought to mean.

Got my costumer's ATC's coming along. My original plan got scrapped, as the technique did not work in acrylic the way it does in oils. And I somehow bought Glitter Mod Podge. Ooops.

At Home Depot, Anneliese was shopping for paint cards. ;-) I tried to get her to pick a scheme for her room, as I'd like to paint it while she does her overnight at Grandma's. She picked out the Hannah Montana and Pirate's of the Carribean cards. I'm thinking not. Probably either the Tinkerbell or an Under the Sea theme. Crazy girl-child.

So, after many trials and tribulations, we got our new phone line and internet connection up and running yesterday. I'll spare the details that involve a wasted day waiting for a technician - who didn't show up as we were scheduled for a remote install. And my husband actually managing to rewire the phone jack. (Making me wonder why the electrical outlet in the bathroom has him so completely flummoxed).

We had another chicken break, resulting in husbandly panic. In which he learned 2 things - I am not a Harem Girl - never clap to summon me. And chickens don't go for long explores at night. They just want to roost up high. None of them was more than a foot from their pen. *eye roll*

Working on my costumer's AT cards. I have come to grips with the fact that my minimal skills as an illuminator were not going to serve, as my current costuming bent is 16th century. And that would just not work well. So I've gone with decoupaging on some bits of my favorite inspiring portraits and then embellishing them with various tidbits. So far, so good. Altered cards, as it were.

I'm thinking I might look for yarn at Fiber Fest for Rori. I think I'll use Susan Anderson's hat pattern as a base. And try to knit some fairy wings to stick on amongst the flowers. I'm thinking of some seasonal variations, so we'll have to see what colors I find.

I'm in a shopping mood and I have no money, so it's a link shopping day:

This speaks to me as a quilt for Anneliese, what with the mermaids.

And this for Rori, though I might go with a single colorway. Love the princess and the pea one. The unicorn tapestry isn't bad, either.

This is just cute. It doesn't need a reason.

I have no idea what I would make with this, but it feels like deep summer.

More mermaids, different colorway.

More summer fabric. Just pretty.

I'm also going to troll the Fest for some Spud and Chloe yarn. The sweater weight. For the Ror-ster.

I might pick out something as a reward if the weight loss project continues apace. The scale at the gym says 7# - which is probably at least 2-3# of water from the pred dosage. But still. I've moved up my sets on the weights and added more weight on, as well. Yea, me.

Yesterday we lost our power in the AM. Must have been another squirrel in the transformer or some such. So we piled in the car and went to Lansing. We traipsed through the 4H children's garden and then the larger gardens. It was more than a little warm, so we also stopped by the Dairy Store. They apparently also have a Student Union location now, so it wasn't as crowded as I remember it being. Of course, they just buy their stuff from Country Fresh these days, rather than making their own, for the most part. It was good. But I miss the old $0.75 ice cream cone that you could hardly finish.

Anneliese starts the summer program today, which is a good thing. She needs something to do. Though, on the upside, she's begun being more tractable about eating things that aren't toast. Now all I have to do is get Mom to NOT pull a Captain Hook on her and ruin it.

Back to the ol' grind. Hopefully I can take the time tomorrow to grab my book from the library. It's a facsimile of a Dutch embroidery model book from the 16th century. ;-)

I really need to remember that Crown Tourney is really the start of the Summer Event Season, and plan accordingly. Like remembering the sun shade. Luckily Antonia and Collette were there and gracious enough to share, bless them!

My, how I prefer the straight-up double elimination Round Robin Tourney. As opposed to the each match is a best-of three style. With the finals as best of three matches of three bouts. Those drag on forever!

We were delighted to see that Duke Stephen was standing. Not that either of us knows him well, but damn, he's fun to watch!! John likened it to a Kung-Fu Tourney, and then had to explain styles to me. He likened the Midrealm's rather plodding, heavy style to Bear Kung-Fu. And said Stephen was like someone entering an all-bear tourney, fighting Crane Style. I concede the point. And enjoyed watching the King-Fu. Several up-and-comers got their respective asses handed to them in a shining demonstration of why they are not classed as "Level 4" fighters, if one uses Duke Finn's system. I found this amusing on many levels. Therapeutic Ego Deflation, if you will.

Unfortunately, Stephen went down to Duke Bardolph in the semi's. At which point we no longer had a horse in that race and started to pack up. Most interestingly, when next I looked over, it appeared that Stephen was regaling his side of the list field with a demonstration of exactly how he'd been beaten. In lively and delighted manner, with the air of a true passionate sportsman who has just learned something new and intends to take it apart and learn it inside out. *sigh* Such flair, personality, and intelligence those two have! I hope he stands again. For one thing, somebody who appreciates late period German !! I really have to try to pick his brain someday about the Wafenrock he had as his A&S project. Tres cool!

Home again, with very weary little ones. Then, a day of rest today. Ran a few errands, and decided to wait a few days to do Rori's birthday cake. She was much too tired to have done anything but cry today.

Ditto, her Mommy.

Bedtime!

Wow. Busy, busy weekend.

First, it was off to Chicago. Missing one toll plaza for being in the wrong lane has instituted a discussion on whether an I-Pass might be worthwhile. What I'm wondering about is what the "refundable" deposit is all about. Especially on recharges. WTF? Deposit for what?

We started at the Field Museum, which may have been a tactical error. Anneliese enjoyed it, but it was pretty much over her head, and really not hands-on enough. She did like Sue, but wasn't fascinated for all that long. That place is such a maze, that in the herding of the Anneliese, we never even got to see the Maneaters of Tsavos, which John was looking for. Though, in truth, knowing that the current mounts are quite a little smaller than the original animals - given the repeated trimmings and time spent as rugs - it was likely to be anticlimatic. John wants to do it sometime, just him and I. A reasonable thought.

It was such a nice day, we wandered down the way to the Adler Planetarium. This is a place that holds many fond memories for the Hubs, as his mother drove him down for weekly astronomy classes when he was a kid. Apparently it has changed drastically. ;-) Though it didn't shift his paradigm as badly as watching Chicago cabbies waiting (reasonably) politely for pedestrians to cross streets. He speculates that they must in some way fear a visit from The Outfit otherwise. *sporfle*

Anneliese preferred the Adler, certainly. Heck, so did I. The sheer selection of honest-to-goodness medieval astronomy instruments was super keen. I sense an ivory sundial in my future as an A&S project. John took Anneliese to a Big Bird and Elmo sky show, which she adored. Perhaps a bit too much. After Elmo said "Bye bye, friends!" - she sobbed. I sat on the bench outside the theater with her for 10 minutes - sobs. We went upstairs so John could check out the other exhibits - sobs. Walked back to the parking garage at Soldier Field - sobs. Maybe an hour? Until she was finally distracted by the great Pokemon seek-and-find book. Aiieeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was then 4 PM, and John and I were faced with spending hours in a hotel room until the girls were tired enough for bed. Or find something else to do. God Bless GPS. And I mean that in a literal, non-blasphemous, genuine way. Up to Woodfield we went. Ah, another place to visit when unencumbered by children. It's the weirdest mall. Lots of half-levels, ramps, and mezzanines. I could SEE the Janie and Jack store, just couldn't figure out how to get AT it. And was unwilling to drag the whole fam around anyway. As it was, we stopped at Caribou Coffee for hot water for Rori's bottle just in time to avoid a meltdown on that front. The Disney Store was big and well stocked. And the Disney Doorway to Dreams was really a lot of fun. They put on movies and dragged out toys for the girls while John and I toured the models and talked turkey with the salesman. I suspect he will call tomorrow. John was briefly tempted by Bay Lake Tower, just because of the view. Until I pointed out how few of the units HAVE a Magic Kingdom view. He still likes the location, and we're less affronted by the decor, having seen it in person. But I'd still rather have Boardwalk. Especially since the salesman was emphatically sure that an extension would be in the works, soon. Though I doubt I'd get that in writing. I think we'll wait. Mostly cause we can't afford it anyway at the moment. Even with some pretty damned good incentives.

We window-drooled at Texas de Brazil. But again, had the girls along. And $42.50 a head was a little steep, with kids. Then off to the hotel in Portage, IN for the night.

Parte the firste:

I have finally bullied my husband into setting up an LJ account. I think it will be good for him in a number of ways. Actually, reading his initial entry, I'm hoping it'll improve his spelling. *g* For those who don't know him, he is a 10 year veteran of the Marine Corps, currently being Stay-at-Home Dad to one autistic 7 year old and one infant. He's busily wallowing in self-pity, but he's a very good Daddy. Within the SCA he's primarily into heavy combat, brewing (ales, not meads), and beginning to add cheesemaking and charcuterie to the list. Go say "hello" if you're so inclined at [livejournal.com profile] quintussergius.

Parte the seconde:

I was debating about the A&S 50 stash challenge. Then I hit on a better idea for me. I launch myself an A&S 50 UFO challenge. Yes, I really have (at least) 50 unfinished objects rattling about my home. Some have gotten no further than the planning stages, but still. I'm not going to list them here just yet, as I'm not in the mood to be held to it. But I'll trumpet as I finish each and keep a running tally going.

Parte the thirde:

The above challenge will probably take a back seat to Holiday Stuff. Meaning, I'm making the girls each a few things for Christmas. And have some candy-making and baking plans as well. For instance, I've been busily helping test bake recipe for Peter Reinhart's new book. It's fun, and I get to play with his recipes first. ;-) So far, I've tried his French Bread and a Chocolate-Cinnamon babke. Bagels are next.

Parte the Fourthe:

Later I may expound at length on my own take on the authenticity vs SCAdianism dichotomy. If I feel like it. Stay tune - or not - as YOU feel like it.
