OK, so - here's an opportunity for those in the MK (Or near enough to come, anyway) to send me a wishlist of Classes they'd like to see at RUM. Also helpful would be teachers you'd like to see and what you'd want them to present.

I'm thinking of some vaguely themed tracks again:

Advanced Tailoring/Costuming - this might turn into a seminar... Hour 1 - Duct tape dummy, Hour 2 - draping, Hour 3 - handsewing techniques, Hour 4 - fitting, etc., etc..... Upside - become a better costumer in a day. Downside - miss all the other tracks.

Uncommon Costuming - In other words, not Norse, 'bethan, cotehardies, or T-tunics

Pimp Your Camp (Pavillion building, making camp furniture, camp cooking, etc.)

The Finer Things - Jewelry making, lace making, period cosmetics/bath accoutrements, glass work

And then of course, a track for all those people who offer to teach various things that don't fit anywhere else.

What else would folks want to see?

Any idea where you're going to end up holding this session?

Don't turn too green. This all depends on me hunting up the right people and getting them all to show up!

Heck, I'd like to come visit you at some point, too!

OMG - We should totally plan a 'German Costume Freaks' get away weekend. Just need to be able to find a way to affordably ship our books/costume projects/etc. *chuckle* Now, how to kidnap jillwheezul and mmcnealy along for the ride…

Should I confess that I am my own fiber arts track? Fiber prep (currently working on adding flax prep to wool prep), spinning, weaving, even tablet weaving, if desired. Of course, the time I did this, over in Baile na Scolairi, it did rather consume an entire day. But we had a ball doing it!

Thanks! I'll keep it in mind. A lot depends on what we get for a site and how many rooms there are.

I always vascilate between in depth tracks on one topic and trying to have a variety of topics available. It's a tough line to walk.

Calligraphy and Illumination, baby, don't forget one of the most popular arts in the society ;) Gilding classes are popular, as are technique classes like whitework. Lyonnete's "How to make a fast scroll" class is awesome, but I doubt she'll be able to go to Chicago to teach it ;)

A class on dyes would be good; a lot of folks want to dye something in the course of their SCA careers ;)

Bronze casting, pewter casting or metalsmithing

Oh man... I dream of an enameling class, heh ;) Repuse, plique-a-jour, cloisonne *siiiiiiigh!*

I've always thought that it'd be nice to have an open drawing session, with a model, but that's just me.

I usually get enough volunteers for C&I classes that I don't have to go hunt them up.

Casting, I'm waiting to see what sort of site we get. ;-) Makes a difference if we've got somewhere that sort of thing will be allowed.

I'm also making an effort to try to combine those things that will be a big draw with those things you don't see very often. There ARE actual Heraldic/Scribal symposia. And, of course, the MK Cooks Symposium is going to be near in both date and location. So I just anticipate the cooking classes will be less in evidence as both teachers and potential students are more likely to go to THAT. This time.

THAT I can do some investigating on... I know of at least one Laurel of the distance doesn't turn out to be to great....

Yeah, but at least RUM moves around. ;-) More than can be said for Kingdom Faire.

It's sort of that dichotomy of trying to make RUM appealing to a large section of the populace, and yet also have a lot of classes that don't appear elsewhere. Which is why we're trying to move away from doing to many "Introduction to" type classes if we can possibly help it. Unless it's an art or science so unusual that you pretty much only get it if you live near the one person in the Kingdom that does it - or go to RUM.
